Procedures for Enrolling Students


Antelope View Charter School makes use of the following procedures to enroll students: All students, including students with disabilities, in order to enroll as a regularly attending student capable of benefiting from a personalized learning program will meet specific academic criteria as well as agreeing to specific elements of participation.


Eligibility Criterion for All Student Admissions


The Antelope View Charter School is designed to serve students in Middle School and High School (grades 6-12) with site-based direct instruction provided by credentialed teachers, and home-based instruction provided by parents.


Minimum Academic Proficiency Requirements for All Students


All students, including students with disabilities, in order to enroll as a regularly attending student capable of benefiting from a personalized learning program will meet the following academic criteria:

  • a. Demonstrate, on a standard assessment, the ability to read and write with comfortable fluency and comprehension at a minimum 4th grade California Standards level in English.
  • b. Demonstrate, on a standard assessment, the ability to solve basic calculations using the operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication and division at a minimum 4th grade California Standards level.

Minimum Student and Parent/Guardian Participation for All Students


All students, including students with disabilities, in order to enroll as a regularly attending student at Antelope View Charter School will agree to the following participation guidelines:

  • c. Attend and participate, according to teacher established general guidelines designed to promote engaged learning, prescribed courses and resources offered on-site amounting to a minimum of 20% of a student course schedule.
    • 1. Students will attendance and participate in assigned scheduled tutorial support meetings and group instruction.
  • d. Participation in assessment programs required by the state of California, and Antelope View Charter School.
  • e. Participate independently with direct parent support, according to school/teacher/parent established general guidelines designed to promote engaged learning, prescribed courses and resources offered on-site amounting to not more than 80% of a student course schedule.
    • 1. Students will participation in at least five hours, daily, of parent-directed or teacher-directed instruction.

Intake Process for All Students


All students, including students with disabilities, who apply for trial enrollment at Antelope View Charter School, will participate in an in-take process that is designed to provide students and parents with an opportunity to make an informed decision about the likelihood that the program offered at the Antelope View Charter School will meet the student's needs and interests.


Intake Paperwork Requirements for All Students


All students seeking a trial enrollment at Antelope View Charter School may experience a delay after the initial date of application to allow for records transfer.


In addition to completing an application for trial enrollment at Antelope View Charter School, all students will be required to submit the following information:

  • Drop-Slip from previous school
  • Immunization Records
  • Release for student cumulative file
  • Transcripts of previously completed course work
  • SARB document if applicable
  • Expulsion and suspension records if applicable
  • Current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) if applicable
  • Current 504 Plan (if applicable) and medical documentation or psychological evaluation describing the condition(s) causing a student to be disabled and eligible for a 504 Plan

Obtaining Records for All Students


Records will be ordered and information verified via phone contact with a previous school or district of attendance for all students. The registrar for Antelope View Charter School will order cumulative records for all students attempting to enroll.


Intake Support for Students with Disabilities


All students, including students with disabilities, seeking a trial enrollment at Antelope View Charter School may experience a delay after the initial date of application to allow for records transfer.


In addition to completing an application for trial enrollment at Antelope View Charter School, all students, including students with disabilities, will be required to submit the same documents as other students.


Obtaining Records for Students with Disabilities


If it is reported or suspected that a student is currently receiving or has received special education services in the past, Individual Education Plan (IEP) documents will be requested from the school or district of previous attendance and will be considered along with any other relevant information at an in-take meeting.


While it is helpful if parents of students with disabilities are able to provide copies of special education records and a current IEP, the in-take team cannot meet until verification of current services and student needs are provided by the last school of attendance.


Records will be ordered and information verified via phone contact with a previous school or district of attendance for all students, including students with disabilities.


The registrar for Antelope View Charter School will order cumulative records for all students attempting to enroll.


The Resource Specialist will request faxed copies of the most current IEP and psychological evaluation to help the in-take team review student needs.


A representative from CUSD Special Education Services will order confidential records when notified that a student with special needs is applying for enrollment.


Providing Information to Parents and Students


Group Orientation will provide information to all parents and students.


Intake Team Meeting for students with special needs:

  • Members of the initial intake meeting: 1) school administrator responsible for overseeing special education services at Antelope View Charter School, 2) parent, 3) student, 4) guidance counselor.
  • This meeting will expand on basic information presented to a group in an Orientation Meeting and allow parents and students privacy to ask questions about services for students with special needs.
  • In this meeting, parents will have an opportunity to ask questions so that they fully understand the model of special services delivery at Antelope View Charter School.
  • In this meeting, the school team will have an opportunity to review IEP documents and to meet the student in order to better understand student needs and describe how this program might meet those needs.

30 Day Trial Enrollment for All Students:


All students who apply for enrollment at Antelope View Charter School first participate in a 30 day trial experience. During the trial enrollment all students must demonstrate an ability and commitment to make use of the program at Antelope View Charter School in order to continue as regularly enrolled students in the program.


Continued Enrollment


Upon completion of a 30 day trial term of enrollment all students who demonstrate the ability and commitment to participate according to expectations in the program at Antelope View Charter School will be continued as regularly enrolled students.


A student who does not appear to benefit from or to be committed to full participation in the Antelope View Charter School program will not be recommended for continued enrollment as a regularly attending student.


A student who appears to benefit from and to be committed to full participation in the Antelope View Charter School program will be recommended for continued enrollment as a regularly attending student.
